Subcomandante Insurgente Marcos (literally “Deputy Commander Marcos rebels”, a nickname, presumably b. June 19, 1957 in Tampico, Tamaulipas, Mexico) – left radical writer and philosopher, the chief ideologue and propagandist of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation that has submitted a Native American uprising in 1994 in Mexico in Chiapas, the author of more than 200 essays and 21 books. Legend and a recognized symbol of anti-globalization. In public, always appears in a black mask – “pasamontane.”

In April 2001, Subcomandante Marcos led a peaceful march on Mexico City, supported by well-known personalities such as Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Oliver Stone, editor of “Le Monde Diplomatique” Ignacio Ramonet, as well as a number of MEPs.

In June 2005, as part of the presidential campaign unfolds Subcomandante Marcos announced the “Other Campaign” (App. La Otra Campa? A). The Zapatistas were not going to nominate or support any of the presidential candidates, instead they made demands the adoption of a new constitution, which would be secured national ownership of the natural resources of Mexico and the autonomous rights for 57 indigenous. The “other campaign”, in addition to the EZLN, joined more than 900 organizations.

January 1, 2006 Subcomandante Marcos, will change to the campaign name to “Delegado Gray” (App. Delegate Zero), began obschemeksikansky tour, during which he visited each of the 31 Mexican states. Traveling as Che Guevara, on a motorcycle, Marcos met with the local population and interviews. May 9, 2006, he appeared on the central channel of the Mexican television.

Despite effectively combat the “Other Campaign” against poverty and exploitation, it received mixed reviews. During the campaign, Marcos distanced himself from the leftist regimes in Latin America, ranked among the neo-liberal socialist governments of Venezuela, Bolivia, Brazil, Uruguay and Chile (Subcomandante believes that they are hiding behind the rhetoric of the left, refusing to go to drastic changes). Subcomandante also questioned the ability of the applicant to the post of President of Mexico from the left-wing forces, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, to completely eliminate the dictates of the IMF, the WTO and the United States over the country. However, the Obrador learned and used many of the techniques and methods of the “Other Campaign, and also visited the Zapatistas in Chiapas in December 2005.

Creativity Subcomandante directed, for the most part, on the denunciation of neo-liberal model of development of modern civilization and on the development of alternatives to such development. Very often, in his essay, he uses irony, parables and poetry techniques, as well as the style of magical realism (part of his essays and guerrilla communique written on behalf of the beetle Don Durito). Political philosophy Marcos, also called Zapatismo, can be described as the combination of the basic principles of Marxism and anarchism. In addition to the works of Marx and Engels on the outlook Marcos seriously affected gramshianstvo, Maoism, Autonomism and cultural heritage of the indigenous peoples of Mexico. Creativity Marcos focuses on unfair exploitation of people by big business and governments.
